Eli5: how do we know how fast the earth is moving in space?

How can we measure how fast the earth moves around the sun, or how fast the earth is spinning, without having some stationary point outside of the movement/rotation from which to observe and measure it?

rotational motion can be measured without an external reference point since it creates an acceleration. You only need an external reference for linear motion.

All of the linear speeds ARE measured relative to something else (Like, our galaxy is moving away from [other galaxy] at [rate])
