I dont know of many builds that are named after directions but when they are usually its in relation to something else. If its the west wing of a building its west of the main/rest of the building. If its the northern tower its north of the other towers. Sometimes it might not be obvious what that refrence is like they might mean east of the river because other building that has a similar function also exists or existed west of the river or something similar.
I grew up in a town where all streets and surrounding roads ran North, South, East and West. I subconsciously adjust my awareness of the direction I’m facing when I take a right angled turn. However if I come i to a town after travelling winding roads or arriving on an aircraft I have no idea which direction I’m facing. I subconsciously pick a direction and all my directions are usually wrong afterwards.
If you build two office buildings next to each other, and one is to the east of the other, you can call it the East Office.
If you buy a building on the northern side of the city, you can call it Office North.
If you buy a building anywhere, and you like the name “South Office”, you can call it South Office for absolutely no reason.
This depends a lot on which location you are talking about. You even have cases of renaming buildings and locations after major construction works as the old names does not make sense any longer. Normally the cardinal direction names are relative to some sort of central area. This can be the center of all the buildings, a main entrance way to the complex, some sort of main building, the oldest building in the complex, etc. So it is safe to assume that the east building is east of the west building. And you would expect the north building to be north of both of these. So if you are in the north building trying to get to the west building you would have to go south into the sun but keep right.
