This depends a lot on which location you are talking about. You even have cases of renaming buildings and locations after major construction works as the old names does not make sense any longer. Normally the cardinal direction names are relative to some sort of central area. This can be the center of all the buildings, a main entrance way to the complex, some sort of main building, the oldest building in the complex, etc. So it is safe to assume that the east building is east of the west building. And you would expect the north building to be north of both of these. So if you are in the north building trying to get to the west building you would have to go south into the sun but keep right.
