Azathioprine is an immunosuppressant. Meaning it calms or suppresses your immune system. Making you more susceptible to diseases and such. Basically white blood cells are the main of your immune system to fight off diseases or foreign objects. Specifically azathioprine inhibits your body from creating the DNA and RNA necessary for you to create white blood cells thus suppressing your immune system.
