Eli5 How does car detailing work?

Every time I see car detailing videos I always see the people get the electronics wet with soap and I assume water? Or there is some spray. How does that work? Is there a reason the dashboard and car screen work fine after a detail?

Basically, they aren’t staying wet long enough for it to be a problem, nor are they on while they are wet. Also, most electronics now have some degree of water resistance.

Water itself doesn’t cause damage, water causing new electrical pathways causes damage. Putting your phone in rice works because it means your phone is off and the water can’t form new pathways, not because the rice reverses damage or actually does much to absorb the water.
