You have a furnace of some type, natural gas, oil, or electric. When it clicks on, it starts the heating up process. Then the blowers start blowing air past the hot elements which heat up the air. That hot air blows into your house, to make your house warm and toasty.
It’s essentially a fan and a heater. The fan draws air in through the air return, the heater heats the air, and the fan pushes it back into the house via the ducts.
What that heat source is depends on the system type (often influenced by location).
