Foaming agents in the soap. Chemicals like sodium laureth sulfate are added to make the soap foam up when it’s agitated. The foam is mostly a marketing tactic, since we associate the suds with cleanliness, but they don’t really do much. The suds also help with seeing the soap, and what has been covered.
