Eli5: How does Geoconfirming work?

From what I understand, it’s looking at certain landmarks (stars, mountains, etc) and using that to find a area. I can understand how they can use this to find a general area, but it seems like people are able to do this after a few hours and pinpoint the exact coordinates of something. Are they using AI? Are they so good at geography that they just know every coordinate? It seems impossible to me, but yet people are doing this a lot from one picture or one video which doesn’t even seem to show anything.

They’ve probably played a lot of geoguessr, and have many different ways to narrow down a location. It’s not just mountains, but how roads are built and marked, road signs, license plates, the design of power poles and street lights, what the plants and dirt look like, what direction the sun is coming from, etc.
