Eli5 How does pop/soda coming out of your nose work?

Is it just air forcing it up at the wrong time, like when you laugh while drinking?

Your nose and mouth connect in one big tube to your throat, and if fluid can’t go down for whatever reason, like laughing or whatever, it still has to go somewhere. So, it goes up. And burns lol
