ELI5. How is the hotdog in epoxy (link in text) not rotting?

So someone has encased an actual hot dog in epoxy (https://i.imgur.com/UDHms4S.gifv) and posts regular updates and it still looks pristine. I get that its airtight but it certainly wasn’t sterile when it went in so how come its not degrading over this length of time – 10 months and counting.

Rot usually comes through exposure to air and bacteria. When sealed in epoxy like that, it gets neither so no rot.

Bacteria needs food water and oxygen to grow. There’s no air getting to this so even if it isn’t sterile it isn’t going to be completely covered in mold. It most likely would not be safe to eat if you managed to get it out though if it wasn’t sterilized before going in.
