They aren’t checking the puzzle. Those are usually trivial and easy for a computer to solve. They’re checking how you’re interacting with the puzzle.
A computer will move the mouse in straight lines and stop exactly in the right place on pictures or buttons, humans are less exact so they can tell if it’s a computer or not based on that interaction.
