Eli5: I decided to check the weather app and I saw something very strange. So basically the temperature is continuing to drop throughout the day. It’s 55 at 9 AM and by 3 PM the temperature has dropped down to 46. What happened? Is this a glitch or is it something that actually happens?

Cold front moving through. Colder air behind the front, and as it moves through warmer air is pushed above the cooler air, this lowering ground temperature. Happens all the time.
