Often times in TV shows and movies defibrillator is used when someone has a slow or no pulse but isn’t that wrong? Could some explain what the purpose of defibrillator is used for? And do shows and movie even do research before shooting the scene?

When someone requires CPR their hear can still have the electrical pulse running in it. Due to trauma the pulse can go out of rhythm which is called fibrillation. Basically the heart is fluttering and unable to pump. The defibrillator sends a pulse through the heart putting it back into rhythm.
