Eli5. If days became longer would the human lifespan still be the same?

Highly speculative hypothetical question….
But lifespan is largely irrelevant to days. We use days as a unit of measurement to describe passing of time, and as such life.

Imagine a liter of water. Got it? Cool. Then the definition of a liter somehow changes. More water doesn’t appear or disappear because the unit of measurement changes. It’s still the same amount of water, but might be *described* differently.

Though.. the issue could be the possible stress on the body. Since humans are generally naturally setup for the “normal” day night cycle, depending how the hypothetical change happens, it could cause some stress the same way changing clocks for daylight savings causes a few deaths. Generally car accidents and heart attacks go up when people lose an hour of sleep, but that’s more about the sleep pattern being disrupted than the length of the day.

Yes. Our lifespan is limited by the aging of our cells. They don’t even know what time of day it is.
