If a person is very tired due to lack of sleep, the body can enter REM sleep more quickly. Some people don’t realize that they are chronically sleep-deprived.
Medical conditions can play a role as well. Narcolepsy can cause a person to enter REM sleep very quickly.

I’d like to know this as well. Maybe you are able to drop into a rem state or lower brown wave state faster with a nap? If you consciously think you’re going for a nap, can the brain discern that and condense a sleep cycle to induce rem state quicker?
