First of all, 2% different is a HUGE difference. Just like how we share 50% of our DNA with plants, and 61% with fruit flies, most DNA is somewhat generic to life in general. Just like how if you add one extra atom to a molecule it becomes a whole different substance entirely, changing 2% of DNA can make huge differences.

Second of all, while it’s considered abhorrent and obviously murder is wrong, you wouldn’t necessarily get sick from eating human meat. A lot of the times that people from recent eras resort to cannibalism it’s because they’re starving. If you’re starving, it doesn’t matter what you eat, you’re going to get sick. Allied GIs accidentally killed a lot of Holocaust victims because when they were rescued, they were so emaciated that the natural human urge is to give them food immediately, and they didn’t know better to know someone who is that starved has to be very gradually reintroduced to food. So the popular misconception that human meat makes you sick comes primarily from confusing the sickness that comes with eating after starvation with sickness that came from the thing you ate in particular.

Cannibalism itself won’t hurt you, unless you eat diseased food, and you’ll be less picky if starving.

The typical issue is prion disease, which is caused by a misfolded protein. Cooking the meat DOES NOT (Fixed. Thanks /u/OptimisticOctopus8) prevent prion disease. This misfolded protein will cause your own proteins to misfold which each then cause more of your proteins to misfold, and so on.

From what I remember, this is most common if you eat the brain or stuff around the nervous system. Try to avoid doing that, even if starving.

Even with taking precautions and opting out of cannibalism, you may still get prion disease. Good luck.

To add to what others have said, bear in mind that pork is actually one of the most dangerous meats to eat if it’s not properly handled and cooked. If humans ate raw pig meat they’d be likely to get sick because many parasites and bacteria that can survive in pigs can survive in humans too.

Not a real explanation but just a remark: pig and human are inly 90% similar, chimp and human are 98%
