Basically pain is a good thing. It tells you when something’s wrong. If you have a shoulder injury and it doesn’t hurt, you might not rest it and treat it how you should, causing more serious injuries.

Your body naturally only will produce so much. Opioids the drug, make it so that you produce way more.

Having that high level of opiods in your system all the time also comes with plenty of negatives. One simple one is your brain is clouded. If you do have a physical injury and can’t perform as well in tasks like hunting and gathering, what you need is to use your mind to benefit your group of people so they can survive and reproduce

The body does not need to make you feel better. Pain is just as crucial to our survival as anything else we can feel – it is rare for you to need to override it.

So you normally don’t. Your body lets you suffer because the would-be ancestors of yours who did not feel as much pain died from their comfort. Whether it be from infected wounds, unhealed broken bones, muscle strain, or some other avoidable problem.
