eli5 is average height studies objective or subjective?

I was having a conversation with my best friend and they said that the average height is a subject thing bc in order for it to be objective they need to have study or gotten all the heights from every man in American. I’m not certain how data or stats work. But maybe it’s objective only by those who have been tested on average? Idk how to explain it to them or if I’m wrong help me understand a bit better.

Any kind of information is objective when it’s not subject to interpretation or opinion. It just *is*.

An objective piece of information can still be wrong, like if the tool you use to measure people’s height is inaccurate or badly scaled, but the information it produces is still objective. If you average that information, it’s also still objective. However, it may not be a good generalization to the whole population (e.g. American men) if the group of people you measured, the *sample*, is not representative or not large enough.
