Eli5: Is heating calcium carbonate and water together an infinite loop reaction? Why or why not?

The loop I thought of
1)Water + caco3
2)Heat
3)Caco3 decomposes
4)Co2 +cao+water
5)Cao+water make ca(oh) 2 + heat which is used in (step 2)
6) ca(oh) 2 +Co2 – – > caco3 + water(step 1)

Under ideal conditions, chemical reactions can be reversible (run in a loop without any input or output), but as soon as your conditions are not perfectly ideal that’s no longer the case.

Breaking apart dry CaCO3 needs heat at high temperatures, while dissolving things in water is producing heat at low temperatures. You can’t just transfer that.
