eli5… Light eyes are more sensitive to light than darker eyes—but how noticeable is the sensitivity?

I have very fair skin and blue/grey/green eyes. I don’t get headaches from light, but I have grown to always look down in sunlight and avoid looking at certain things. Like white walls and glass that reflect the sun. I wear glasses anyway, so sunglasses have never really been my thing. Was lucky enough to afford those colour changing ones once. That was awesome but I can’t afford new ones.
