I started lifting weights a few months ago. In the beginning if I pushed it to hard I would be really sore the next few days with limited movement/flexibility. Now when I push it I may very well be tired and notice it the next day, but it isn’t painful.
What’s is the difference between pushing weaker versus stronger muscles?

You went too hard in the beginning. But we’re almost all guilty of that because it’s impossible to understand your limits when you just start working out. Also your muscles aren’t used to resistance training so you will get sore very quickly and it will last longer.
Now that they’re used to this, it is going to take much more to get them that sore. But that’s not the goal of weight lifting. Your muscles need to be able to recover within 2 days in order to get the most out of weight lifting. If they take too long to recover, they’re never gonna grow. You damage them so much that they need to use the protein that you consume to repair themselves to the state they were before instead of growing
