eli5: On the packaging of toilet cleaner and an article on mouthwash says that if ingested, do not induce vomitting, why is this? Wouldn’t it be better to get rid of as much of the harmful liquid as possible? What harm can happen if vomitting is induced?

I know that mouthwash at least can cause your throat to close up and choke you. My mate nearly died that way. I assume it’s that or once you’ve got it past your throat, it does less damage where it is. Might even cleanse the colon!

From what I’ve heard it’s cause it isn’t too bad to drink it, but inhaling it (from coughing while vomiting) is way more fatal.
It will do even more damage on the way up, than it already did on the way down.
The stomach is fairly durable to acid, so it is safer to try neutralize the acid in the stomach than trying to get it up again.
