ELi5: pros and cons of carbonated spring water?

The wife doesn’t believe me that it hydrates you. Specifically the pink grapefruit ones. Could someone explain why or why not it is bad for you?

It’s okay if something doesn’t hydrate you as much as water does. What you want to look out for is the sugars.

Pro: water will help keep you alive
Con: carbonated so it will taste like you licked a battery

Sugar dehydrates. Flavored seltzers typically have added sugar.

Unflavored carbonated water is equally as hydrating as flat water, however.

The way it was explained to me, the carbonation expands your belly making it easier for you to over eat.
