During the solar eclipse most shadows reflect the crescent moon shape, why?

The holes in shadows (like the sun shining through gaps between leaves), act like pinhole cameras that project the image of the source onto a surface. If the sun is crescent shaped due to being partially eclipsed by the moon, small holes and gaps project this onto the ground.
