Sorry if it’s been asked before but how come we can look up and see stars but when NASA releases photos taken in space it’s just a black abyss with no stars at all?

Was there something illuminated by direct sunlight in the same photo? Sunlight is ridiculously bright compared to the stars, so you need different camera settings.

If you’re trying to take a photo of the Earth(daylight side), and set the exposure to capture stars, the Earth will just be an overexposed white blob.
