How did pineapples come to be so big in swinger culture?

The story I’ve heard that is a pineapple was a symbol for welcome or party in America since the 1700s as a ship captain, dockworkers, pirates, coming in to port with goodies, to trade. Swingers have appropriated it as a symbol for their type of party. I always heard it was specifically the “upside down” pineapple. I’m not a swinger though. Seems like one of those things that pearl-clutching Karens made up.
I have never heard of this. I do know that pineapples are the international symbol of hospitality. I’d guess swingers wanted their guests to feel welcomed and probably started to use the fruit to mimic it’s use in the hotel industry to create the effect. Over time the two could become synonymous. Still I think most people know the pineapple more for it’s relation to hospitality in general than to its use among swingers.
I was not familiar with this. I wonder why they chose pineapples though?
