ELi5 the Iowa caucuses. What is the purpose/process?

Wow that’s a real failure of the Iowa school system.

Anyways. The Iowa caucuses are your primaries. It is your chance to say what candidate you support. Republican or democrat.

Other states have “primaries” where republicans and democrats ge to vote for their nominee separately. In Iowa you funky people combine them into the Iowa Caucus.  From that, Donald Trump has emerged as the winner in Iowa, while Democrats are still counting votes.
