Please help me understand the reasoning behind an item being sold on FB Marketplace for $1 but shipping is around $80? Is that a way to skirt taxes? It’s usually a generic store name, such as Vibrant Discounts, a super long intro title (Bluetooth virtual keyboard wireless infrared blah blah blah), a “sale price” showing it was lowered to $1 from $50 or so, then shipping being astronomical. What is the generic seller trying to accomplish here? Shipping on an item like that should be like ten bucks…

It makes you think the item is cheap by listing the item at a low price. Then the high shipping is mostly to make up what they cut off the “real” price to make their money.

or making it appear when sorting by lowest price
In addition to them making it look like a good deal, they’ll often have terms where they will not include shipping costs if you ask for a refund. So if it arrives and is a piece of crap, you won’t bother sending it back just to get your one dollar.
