Eli5 wasps/hornets apparent love of crashing

Is there a reason for wasps/hornets flying into walls and ceilings with enough force that you can see them bounce and hear the impact?
It seems too aggressive for an attempted landing on a wall and on ceilings they seem to hit wing first which removed that initial thought

They don’t have a lot of mass and don’t generate enough force to hurt themselves, plus their exoskeleton deflects the force better than bones. This is how they sense the world by running into things and measuring the chemicals being released from it.
