Your body has a nervous system that communicates via extremely small electro-chemical signals. The nervous system is how the brain tells your arm to move or a finger to wiggle. Every so often, an electrical “short circuit” can occur, causing a muscle spasm, twitch, or a jerk… usually these short circuits are random and non-recurring and harmless. In epilepsy, many short circuits occur all at once, creating an electro-chemical “storm” that causes seizures… and they recur at frequent intervals… and can be deadly, in some cases.
