Unions are a tool used to protect workers from exploitation. Companies hate them because they cut into profit. Negotiations between the union and company help ensure raises, Leave and medical coverage. In some instances, it can protect from arbitrary firing. Unfortunately, there were some corruption and extortion issues that caused a lot of union busting. So now we have a gig culture because companies have more power than people
