Eli5 What changed in advertising that killed or severely weakened the industries that rely on Ad revenue?

Magazines, newspapers, television and radio stations all rely on ad revenue and seem to be dying off. Are advertisers just spending less? If not, where are those ad dollars going?

I see a lot of discussion about online advertising; however, Craigslist killed classified ads in newspaper with their free online ads.

Classified ads were highly profitable and they all but disappeared over just a few years.

Sites/apps like Zillow, Trulia, and Redfin killed most real estate ads. The market moves much faster than the print real estate ad does.

One by one profitable newspaper advertising niches ended over the course of a decade.
