eli5. What does 2218 with a rune number being worn by a Nazi mean?

I saw it on the back of those Nazis that marched in Nashville. With what I believe to have a rune symbol underneath. The only thing I can find is it’s an angel #. It doesn’t make sense. Thanks for your help.

The purpose of codes is to not be understood by outsiders. It’s a deliberate way to create plausible deniability. As a result, it’s not possible to be 100% sure what this means. Any plausible deniability obviously vanishes entirely, though, as soon as you see someone marching openly alongside other open Nazis.

So the way it has worked with Nazis in the past, [numbers are substituted](https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbols/search?f%5B0%5D=topic%3A1709) for the first letter of words to represent a phrase. The Anti-Defamation League at that link records “18” as standing for “Adolf Hitler”. This is because A is the 1st letter of the alphabet, and H is the 8th.

So then some other folks [elsewhere here on Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/1auuxwp/comment/kr6o2m1/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) say that “2218” specifically stands for “Bring Back Adolf Hitler”.

But is that for sure what it means? Who knows. The 22nd letter of the alphabet is V, so maybe it actually stands for “Victorious Adolf Hitler” The 18th letter of the alphabet is R, so maybe it stands for “Victorious Reich”. Maybe it stands for “Bring Back the Reich”. I’m not seeing any resources online either, to know for sure.
