Dry skin in and of itself is not a problem. However, it can be uncomfortable and less resistant to infection as you get older. Lotion helps create a barrier that holds moisture in on the skin that keeps it from getting itchy, flaky, or infected.

It puts the lotion on it’s skin, or it gets the hose again.

It puts the lotion in the basket, or it gets the hose.

Apparently, lotion is a a “hose” preventative.

Lotion is emulsified (blended) water and oil. Sometimes stabilizing agents are used to hold the water and oil together better. Water is the ultimate skin moisturizer and the oil functions as a barrier to stop the water from evaporating. By putting lotion on your skin, you are wetting the surface (this also opens the pores) and sealing the moisture in for a period of time (as long as the oil lasts on the surface of the skin).
