A bot is just a script that runs automatically on stored data. It’s a series of instructions (usually very simple instructions) intended to do things where active automation is desired.

Examples of bots would be bots that remove reddit posts that have received more than <x> reports for <reason>, or that automatically post weekly sticky threads in certain subreddits. A less ethical example of bots are bots that post propaganda to social media.

A botfarm is just an operation that is set up to manage bots. A bot farm is to bots what a coffee shop is to your home coffee maker. One is designed to serve a family, the other is designed to serve a much broader spectrum.
