If you shine a light on a 3d object like a cube it casts a 2d shadow on the wall that looks like a diamond shape. If you shine a light on a 4d object, it casts a 3d shadow in the shape of a tesseract. We can’t imagine the 4d shape cause we live in a 3d world but we can imagine the 3d shadow.

You know how a cube is a square taken from two dimensions into three? Or how a sphere is a circle taken from two dimensions into three dimensions?

A tesseract is a cube taken from three dimensions into four dimensions.
