Basically, the gravity in a black hole is so strong, that it affects the facing side of an object more than the non facing side to such an extent that it pulls into a long strand.

More simplified, grab a ball of silly putty in one hand. That’s you. Your other hand is a black hole. Grab part of the silly putty with your hand and pull it while holding the main clump. That stranding, where it pulls into a long thinning noodle is basically what’s happening.
