I was watching an interview with a celebrity, and she said that after the red carpet she had to return the clothes she was wearing. This got me interested in the ownership and housing of these designer, couture clothing. What happens to the Met Gala gowns after the event? What about the clothes celebrities wear during the press tour for their projects? Do they keep them? Who pays for them? Do they get reused?

Depends… sometimes the celeb keeps them, sometimes they go back to the designer for their archive, sometimes they get auctioned off for charity.
About 20 years ago, I worked for an online auction site and we ran a charity auction for Oscars outfits. One of the included dresses was [Bjork’s famous swan dress](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swan_dress). We had these dresses in the office and one of my co-workers actually put the swan dress on and modeled it for the rest of our department!
