Eli5: What happens when your metabolism is abnormally fast?

When you’re sick your body needs to do thinks it usually doesn’t have to do (at least in such amounts, quantities etc). That’s extra tasks that need extra energy. Energy in the body typically ends up as heat if it doesn’t get stored.

When you’re free of any infect, your body doesn’t need its immune system that much. But once you’re infected with something that triggers your immune system, it will need to use energy.

You’ll lose weight even if you don’t eat less. You’ll have trouble sleeping, and will experience anxiety and irritability. In my case I also developed heart problems, such as atrial fibrillation.
