ELI5, what is autistic burnout, and how is it different from normal burnout?

Note – I myself am autistic though only recently diagnosed as an adult. I hear a lot of terminology used and often I don’t know exactly what people mean.

utistic burnout is a syndrome conceptualised as resulting from chronic life stress and a mismatch of expectations and abilities without adequate supports. It is characterised by pervasive, long-term (typically 3+ months) exhaustion, loss of function, and reduced tolerance to stimulus. my understanding is that it’s basically the same as regular burnout but instead of being caused by typical life stresses the causes stem from the autism
