It’s a radio transmission that was sent into space by the SETI Institute from the Arecibo radio telescope in 1974. The message itself was sent in binary code and contained a simple image of human, the telescope itself, a visualization of our solar system, and our DNA. It was beamed in the direction of a giant cluster of stars about 25,000 light years away, meaning it won’t reach those stars for another 25,000 years. The message itself was not intended to communicate with any potential extraterrestrial life, it was just symbolic.
