Eli5: What is the body trying to do when it goes into anaphylactic shock?

Is it trying to fix itself by closing the airways?….Or is it just a reaction and not a defense.

Thank you so much op and comments. My son had anaphylaxis for the first time last week. It was a horrible life experience for both of us. He is doing great now. I will share this info with him.
