Pga doesn’t allow money just for showing up at a tournament. Shoot poorly and make nothing for the week. Liv does.
Among other things

LIV will pay more to do less. Less tournaments in a year and you don’t necessarily have to place high to get a big pay day. The issue comes with where all that money is coming from. LIV is financially backed by the Saudi royal family and their oil money. Anyone who watches the news will know they’re not exactly good people. Archaic policies towards homosexuals and women, genocide in Yemen, brutally murdering reporters who are critical of the royal family, or funding 9/11. Take your pick, there are plenty of reasons to hate them.

That being said, I understand why a golfer would take the money. Especially if your career is winding down and you can’t win tournaments the way you used to. Or if you’re one of those tour pros who are never quite good enough to win the big tournaments and with them the big paychecks.

LIV is run by an authoritarian repressive regime that punishes people for doing thing they don’t approve of an PGA does…..well I guess the same thing.

It’s been summarized above, but if you want a more in depth discussion Freakonomics recently did an episode about LIV https://freakonomics.com/podcast/what-is-sportswashing-and-does-it-work/

One has an established history of over a hundred years, and tradition of fair play and civility while working with local charities for each tournament site.

The other is a whitewashing attempt by a murderous autocrat using obscene amounts of money to lure money grubbing has-beens to play a goofy team format.
