Eli5: What is the need for transparent flesh, strange illuminated spots on body and visible electricity running around the body, in some deep sea fish?

There may not be any need at all for those traits, but just random occurrence. For instance, some of those fish have no eyes, but we really benefit from them in our environment. Also, transparent skin may not help at all, but having melanin and opaque skin is very useful in our environment. Not all traits are necessary or even useful.
