It is not a paradox from its original Chinese philosophy but you can see it as such from a more modern western philosophical viewpoint. Yin and Yang are representing complementary forces of nature. Yin is representing the more negative principles and Yang the more positive principles. In order to form the whole you need both Yin and Yang and together these create a bigger whole then each separately. You can not just remove Yin and expect to be left with only positive principles.
