Eli5 what was national front in the UK?

I heard someone mention in 1997 national front used the uk flag, i googled national front and couldnt find much explaining what exactly it was, a racist political group? A brexit like group that was against uk having people from other countries move to the uk? Explain please

Yeah it’s a pretty run of the mill European far-right / fascist party. They predate Brexit and it is a mixed bag among that crowd but generally all of the above. Usually eurosceptic, anti-immigrant, and white supremacist.

I say run of the mill bc most countries in Europe have these although they rarely if ever get elected to national or EU parliaments. The term National Front has been widely adopted for parties of similar and different political persuasions, notably in France where it survives as the Rassemblement National, previously called La Front Nationale, which Marine Le Pen led in the last French presidential election.
