Eli5: what’s bipap?

My papa has heart failure and pneumonia and is on BiPAP, but I’m having a hard time understanding. Thanks

PAP is “positive air pressure”.

CPAP is **c**onstantly supplying more air.

It’s easier to breathe in if you are supplied with more air, but it’s harder to breathe out into higher pressure air.

BiPAP is bilevel. Two levels of pressure. It increases the air pressure when you’re breathing in, and reduces it when you’re breathing out.
