Atheist: There is no god. Straight up. No god.

Non-religious: I don’t believe in any particular religion but that’s all I’m saying.

Atheist means asserting that no god exists. Non-religious is simply not following any religion – it makes no assertion.

Atheists believe that no god or gods exist. Non-religious isn’t a very specific term, but it can include atheists as well as people who believe that one or more gods EXIST but don’t subscribe to any organized religion

Most people view atheism a rejection of the idea of a higher power existing at all. Whereas someone who is non-religious could still believe in (a) god(s) or some kind of creator, but not subscribe to any existing religious doctrine.

An atheist is just a person who doesn’t believe that any gods exist.

A religion is more than just belief in a god’s existence. It’s a set of interconnected beliefs, practices, morals, myths, holy texts, and social groups/activities that are usually centered around a belief in a god.

A person who believes that some god exists but doesn’t incorporate that belief into their life in any way is neither atheist nor religious.

A loose comparison to a roulette board

Religious peoples bet on the high numbers because they believe in a higher power.

Atheist bet on the low numbers because they believe there is not one.

Those two have no overlap, but they are on the board.

Agnostics bet on red/black as a color because they may be leaning towards highs or lows, but aren’t really sure yet so they make bo true claim on either side.

Non religious take a look at the board and decide they don’t want to play.

I hope that analogy makes sense lol. I’m bored at work so just thought of it.

“Non religious” has been used to mean everything from disbelief in all supernatural phenomena, ghosts or God, to not being a member of a church congregation.

“Atheist” means denying the possible existence of God. (Rejecting the actual existence while accepting the possible existence is a form of agnosticism.)

Apatheism is deep disinterest, to the extent of having no opinion at all either way ever and stop bugging me about it.

Theist : Someone who believe in god

Atheist : Someone who doesn’t believe in god

Gnostic : Someone who know there is a god

Agnostic : Someone who doesn’t know if there is a god

Non-religious : Someone who doesn’t follow a religion.

People will always fall in more than one category. Most people are agnostic theist, meaning they don’t know if there is a god, but they believe. You can also be a non religious theist. You believe that god exist but you don’t want to take part in an organized religion. A lot of people that call themselves Atheist or Agnostic are actually both, but it really depend on each individual. Not a lot of people are confident enough to be gnostic (theist or atheist), but they exist. They are usually the vocal minority.

Keep in mind that there is a lot of people that might disagree with those definitions. Not everybody really dig into what each word mean and it’s a bit of a touchy subject. So in case of a discussion with someone, it might be important to ask them what they mean exactly by the terms they are using. Otherwise you might just end up in a discussion over definition instead of on the subject itself.
