eli5: When you adopt a child, why do you have to pay so much money?

2.28K viewsEconomicsOther

This was a question I had back when I was in elementary school. I had asked my mom but she had no clue. In my little brain I thought it was wrong to buy children, but now I’m wondering if that’s not actually the case. What is that money being spent on?

Along with what everyone else is saying, it also shows that you are finically capable of having a child. Same kind of thing as dog adoption fees, some of it is to cover costs but alot can be to weed out people who wouldnt take care of the pet.
