If I fall asleep while my phone is plugged into the mobile power bank, the phone will be at 100% battery in the morning but the power bank will be empty.
If I unplug the phone as soon as it reaches 100% the power bank will have enough battery left for 3 more charges.

When your phone is left charging at 100%, it’s still powered on right? So it’s using power and depleting the battery, then pulling more charge from the power bank.
Some phones have smart charge or battery saver features that would do this more efficiently and might not fully drain your bank but many will just slowly and quietly chugg electrons all night long
